“Immanuel”

I was talking with a friend who can’t wait to be a parent. Fresh from his honeymoon, he and his wife are planning and praying for a baby. And they already have names picked out, one for a boy and one for a girl. Whoa! My friend’s wife isn’t even pregnant.

In 735 BC, the prophet Isaiah prophesied to the spiritually struggling nation of Judah: “The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call Him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’)” (v.14). Jesus was named some 730 years before He was born!

I once heard a Bible teacher say that all the truths of Christmas can be stated in just three words: “God with us.” We tend to focus our attention at Christmastime on the human birth of Christ. But the greater focus should be on His deity—who He really is—“God with us.”

Immanuel means that we’re not isolated from a God who sits on some distant throne. Bette Midler’s popular 1990 song “From a Distance,” was off the mark in its refrain: God is not watching us “from a distance.” God is with us. Immanuel means that God lived among us. He had human skin and wore human clothes.

When Joseph and Mary called their son by name, they must have been awestruck. Every time His parents said “Immanuel,” it was a reminder that God was in the house—literally living under the same roof.

Are you alone? Feeling afraid? Have you felt that God is far off, somberly watching you from a distance? If so, recognize that the message of Christmas is that you don’t need to be alone anymore. For Jesus has come. Immanuel. God is with you.

I would like to share my quiet time with you.
From Psalms 100, i learn that we are to give thanks to the Lord for everything everyday. 5mins a day will do.
Thank him for his guidance , goodness , faithfulness and even times of discipline.
Although you may say that this is all common sense, but think about it, how often do we stop thinking about the situation or ourselves and start thanking the one who has made everything possible, God Almighty.
And also, thank you Earthly parents for what they have done also. They have sacrifice alot behind the scene even when they seem uncaring.

“Against all odds”

When considering the many dramatic victories recorded in the Bible, many of us will immediately think of David and Goliath. I’m sure you remember that story of a bold, young shepherd who took down a huge Philistine warrior using a slingshot and a ton of confidence in God (1 Samuel 17:1-50). Most of us forget, however, that before David killed the giant, Jonathan (who would become one of David’s closest friends), displayed a similar level of courage and trust.

Here’s the setting: The army of Israel was in a dangerous bind. The Philistines had assembled a mighty military force that was armed to the teeth and ready to fight. Unarmed and outnumbered by thousands, the men of Israel fled to the hills and hid in caves (1 Samuel 13:6-7).

Eventually Jonathan, the son of Israel’s king, got tired of living in fear and decided to take action on his own. He and his armor bearer challenged a Philistine outpost that was strategically positioned high on a cliff. At first glance, it looked like a suicide mission. But Jonathan’s view was “nothing can hinder the Lord. He can win a battle whether he has many warriors or only a few!” (1 Samuel 14:6). Through a miraculous chain of events, Jonathan and his companion overtook the Philistine outpost (vv.8-14). Their victory triggered a major panic that swept through the entire Philistine army and led to their defeat (vv.15-20).

Against all odds, God rescued Israel that day. It may not be as obviously dramatic, but God will sometime call us into situations where the odds will seem to be stacked against us. Why all the drama and suspense? Perhaps to increase our awe and confidence in Him. For the one who wins the battle is God—not us.

“Borrow me”

The Malmö Library in Sweden has allowed its patrons to borrow live human beings, instead of just books. The Living Library project featured nine people including an iman, a gypsy, and a journalist. Library members could check out the person for a 45-minute conversation at the library’s café to learn more about him or her.

As Christians, people around us are “checking us out” all the time—especially friends who might not share our faith. That’s why Peter advises, “If someone asks about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it” (1 Peter 3:15).

And, he reminds us to “do this in a gentle and respectful way” (v.16). He wants us to share our faith in love, not with a judgmental, “I’m right and you’re not” approach. After all, it was because of God’s love that that He gave “His one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life” (John 3:16).

Our friends may become interested in God’s offer of eternal life when they see how our faith influences our everyday living. When we “don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world” (Romans 12:2), people notice! Although it’s not about appearing perfect, it is about living to please God and letting the “Holy Spirit guide [our] lives” (Galatians 5:16).

Even when we’re doing okay spiritually, it’s a little scary to think about sharing our beliefs with friends. That’s why we need to pray for openness and trust that “even if [we] suffer for doing what is right, God will reward [us] for it” (1 Peter 3:14).

I don’t know about you, but I want to be ready to share my faith with kindness. Until then, I’ll strive to live in a way that makes me the first to volunteer, “Borrow me!” when it comes to speaking up for Jesus.

“Failures and rejects”

John Mark, a young man, had joined Paul and Barnabas in their first missionary journey (Acts 13:4-5). For some unspecified reason(s), he abandoned the missions trip (v.13). Perhaps he was homesick. Perhaps he couldn’t take the tough life of the mission field. Paul was ticked because of John Mark’s lack of commitment and because he abandoned the mission.

Three years after his first missionary journey, Paul wanted to revisit the same cities to encourage the new believers there (15:35-36). Barnabas wanted to bring John Mark along for this second missionary trip. Paul strongly disagreed. He felt that the young man had proven himself unreliable (vv.37-38). To Paul, the mission was important. Paul was right in not taking Mark. To Barnabas, the man was important. Barnabas was right in wanting to take him. Entrenched in their convictions, “their disagreement was so sharp that they separated” (v.39).

John Mark had failed before. But Barnabas believed that Mark deserved a second chance. Barnabas saw the value and potential in his young cousin who had been rejected as a failure (Colossians 4:10). Barnabas saw beyond John Mark’s failure to restoration and a future usefulness and effectiveness.

Given a second chance, John Mark made it good. Later, Paul acknowledged (perhaps almost apologetically) that John Mark was a great help to him in the ministry (2 Timothy 4:11). This young reject went on to write the book that bears his name—the Gospel of Mark.

Can you remember a time when you failed, and a Barnabas came alongside—believing in you and restoring you to wholeness and usefulness? It’s your turn. There are John Marks all around you who are crying out for a second chance. Will you be a Barnabas to them?

“Alone in the night”

In 1963, Darryl Hill endured scorn. A wide receiver for the University of Maryland football team, Hill was the first black player to break into the racially segregated Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC). Each week, Hill encountered hostile crowds, with some opposing fans dressed in white Ku Klux Klan robes or holding large dangling nooses. During one game at Wake Forest, Hill faced a particularly vitriolic atmosphere. Brian Piccolo, a Wake player, crossed the field to Hill and led him directly in front of the frothing Wake student section. Piccolo wrapped his arm around Hill—and just stood there with him. Almost instantly, the crowd went silent.

Simple presence with another can be a powerful and healing act. But the truth of God’s nearness to His people is something truly stunning and comforting.

Jacob experienced that nearness. Estranged from his family and out in the wilderness on a solitary journey, with no bed to curl up on, Jacob merely “found a stone to rest his head against and lay down to sleep” (Genesis 28:11). What followed was an odd vision from God. Jacob saw stairs leading to heaven with angels moving up and down on them. God stood at the top of the stairs.

His powerful words to Jacob reminded him of his identity. They revealed Jacob’s place in his family’s narrative. God’s words declared the truth that He was the God who had always been with Jacob’s fathers. “I am the Lord, the God of your grandfather Abraham, and the God of your father, Isaac” (v.13). And God assured Jacob, as he slept alone on a rock in the dark night, that He would always be with him as well. Always. “I will not leave you,” God said (v.15).

When we’re alone or tired or despondent, it’s easy to feel like we’ve been left entirely to ourselves. But that’s not true. For God is with us.

Hi all! Recently, I had some doubts bout God, but then he spoke to me & gave me an answer to all my questions. I always had very little frens in school & one fren in my class. This made me feel very lonely & caused me to feel as if theres no love at all in my life, many times in the past. Gradually, I started having the feeling that I cant find any love in this world & even thought that God's love cant be felt. I also kept getting temptations to start a r/s, which may be cos of my yearning for companionship. But of course, I didnt succumb to those temptations.

However, time after time these thoughts jus kept replaying in my mind. Soon I started to feel lost in my r/s with God, becoming numb to his love. I didnt give up on God, but I had many questions, questions which I assumed could never be answered. One day, as I was in deep thoughts, I started thinking bout the way I wanted ppl to love me & felt that nobody I know can do that. Suddenly, a thought came into my mind, " if God is my creator & he knows everything bout me, then wont he know how to love me as well? He knew me before I was born, he knows my deepest thoughts, he searches my heart & knows every desire I have. Thats why he knows how I wanna be loved & thats the way he loves me! Even better, he loves me no matter what happens, unless I choose to turn away from him! After knowing this, how can anyone back away from God & his amazing love!

From this journey, I realised that God is the only one for me & I will be satisfied jus by having him, not by having many close frens or having a girlfren. That is why I will abide in God's love now, knowing that I may lose anything or everything, but his love will still be near, always & forever.

James 4:14 - Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. You are just a vapor that appears for a little while and then vanishes away.

“Tomorrow”

Let’s talk about tomorrow—today. What will your tomorrow be like?

Tomorrow could bring death. From the moment we’re born, we’re dying. Someone has said that death is one appointment you may postpone, but can’t cancel (see Psalm 89:47-48).

Tomorrow could bring about sickness (Job 14:1-2). We desire a healthy life. But we have to deal with the fickleness of life and our fragile bodies.

Tomorrow could bring about trouble and suffering. Our days are filled with pain and grief (Job 5:7, 7:1; Ecclesiastes 2:23). We live with frustration, disappointment, and bitterness (Psalm 90:9-10; Ecclesiastes 5:17).

Tomorrow may of course bring no change. Just the mundane grind of sameness. Tomorrow is just like yesterday and the same as today (Ecclesiastes 1:9).

Tomorrow could bring about success and rewards. (Ah, finally something positive!) A promotion? Good profits? Life is good and you can’t wait for tomorrow to come (Isaiah 56:12).

But what about the next tomorrow? Will tomorrow’s tomorrow change your good fortunes—bringing death, sickness, or suffering? Your life comes full circle (Ecclesiastes 1:5-6,9, 3:15).

Ira Stanphill sums up our response to our tomorrows with these lyrics: “I don’t know about tomorrow, I just live from day to day. I don’t borrow from its sunshine, for its skies may turn to gray. I don’t worry [about] the future, for I know what Jesus said; And today I’ll walk beside Him, for He knows what is ahead. Heres a devotional that I got from tangle.com. I felt that it speaks alot to me, hope that God will speak thru it to all of u guys too :D

Malachi 1:11 : “For from the rising of the sun even to its setting, My name will be great among the nations, and in every place incense is going to be offered to My name, and a grain offering that is pure; for My name will be great among the nations,” says the LORD of hosts.

The book of Malachi was written around 420 BC as a warning to the nation of Israel. God accused the priests of offering “defiled” sacrifices (Malachi 1:7). Specifically, He was concerned with the nation’s direct disobedience in not giving Him their best (v.8), and for withholding the tithes He had commanded them to give for His work (3:8-14).

So what does this have to do with us? We don’t bring God animal sacrifices. The death and resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ was the one-time sacrifice for our sins (Hebrews 10:1-18). Malachi doesn’t apply to us, right? Surely we’re not guilty of giving God blemished sacrifices! Or are we?

Let’s look at just a couple of areas where I give God “blemished sacrifices”:

Time. I get up in the morning and have a hundred things to do. So I race into my day planning to take time to pray and read God’s Word in a minute. All throughout the day, I sense a nagging urge to spend time with God. Eight or nine hundred minutes later I’m tired and ready for bed. Not only did I not give God second-best—I didn’t give Him anything!

Money. There are so many things I need! I tell myself I’ll give money to the Lord’s work next month, when I can afford it. But the biblical principle is clear: God wants our best in every area. He doesn’t need my money; He wants me to invest it in His work so that He’ll have my heart. “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be” (Matthew 6:21).

Because of Jesus’ once-for-all sacrifice, we don’t sacrifice bulls and goats anymore. But God should still come first in every aspect of our lives—time, money, talent, friends, choices. What sacrifices do you need to make today? —Tim Gustafson, Our Daily Journey

“Get Going”
Every spring, we plant nearly 40 tomato plants. Every fall, when we find that we have more tomatoes than we can possibly eat, can, or turn into sauce or salsa, we give lots away to grateful friends and family. It makes me wonder, however, why our thankful recipients—lovers of tomatoes that they are—don’t grow even one plant of their own? It’s not appropriate to say that they’re lazy, for they work hard in other pursuits. So I think it’s simply a case of inertia. Despite hearty appetites for tomatoes, they never get around to doing anything about it.

How much of our lives are mediocre because of inertia? We would like to pray more, enjoy deeper intimacy in friendships, read more books, find a more satisfying job, eat better, and exercise more—but we never actually do anything about it. So we continue to coast, settling for the way things are now rather than working toward what they could be.

I’m challenged by Paul, who—being far more mature in his spiritual walk—humbly declared, “I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us” (Philippians 3:13-14).

What area of your life would you like to move beyond mediocrity? If you continue to do what you’ve always done, you’re likely to get what you’ve always gotten. So make a change. Go ahead—pursue a closer walk with God. What steps can you take in that direction? First commit your goal to God in prayer. Then write it down. Hi everyone! June holidays is coming! YES!!! Finally can wake up late! L0L. Anyway, we should have a cellgroup outing during holiday time, so i got 3 suggestions :
1. Sentosa on sunday ( Cos sally got attachment & there may be events during weekdays for some people )
2. Movie during the night ( Most probably movies that will be released during that time, so nobody will have any excuse for not going :D )

This is For You Guys

Finally, Finally, FINALLY….
I could bring myself to blog and write this long awaited post that was meant to be post few weeks back.
I’m also back to the Family that I Deeply Embrace (:

We came to Church of Singapore all at different times
It seems life was accelerating fast enough that even things that can be touched were left untouched and untouched forever.
Friendships are forged among us all, what’s more the broken, stitch up between cries, tears and laughter’s.
I could hardly imagine that we can make it this far though with obstacle that hinders our way, even towards the littlest thing that could bring happiness.
One moment the joy was focused on, which I somehow thought held lots of meaning inside it…
Those happy times we had with our Beloved Hanyang, where lessons are taught in a way that we could never forget even by mistake.
The smiles that appear on Him by our NONSENSICAL Nonsense!
Sometimes we were a nuisance to him but he never give up hope on us…
But instead he hold and lift us all till we can touch the sky even with just limited Resources.
I want to reminisce everything; I want everything to count but sometimes...
Things got lost along the way.

As I recall back those moments in church, it somehow touches deeply inside me.
We used to laugh together in church at every jokes and the little clumsiness of some clowns.
The bonds we had really brought something called LIFE.
We can never imagine what life has installed for us for these few years...
What’s more the small fights, quarrel and disagreement of some insignificance?
We could even remember on how we shattered a person’s heart within seconds.
The promises we made and the aim we have in life.
The craps we used to talk about among the significant people whom voices could never be lowered even for seconds.
The innocence and decent ones are always on top of the list.
This memories of the Magnificent People of Acts5 will never be erase alas it will hang on to us for good.

50 years down the road,
What do we remember of our days in Church?
The days where little tiny things we find joy in.
The unfinished conversation we used to have.
Even the Photographs we capture.

Do we ever flash back the time we chose our path?
Do we remember the friendship that we made and faded along the away?
Do we give a thought about? Will we remember them all?

When thoughts about Acts5 plays inside my little cranium...
The memories that really touched me deeply…
Are those moments when we let our Dearly Beloved Hanyang to wet his face with tears of happiness.
Will I ever forget about it?
The Cell had been there for all of us and I don’t want to forget even a little.
But will the photographs we captured bring back those moments of glory?
I guess not.
But for one thing I know, we do leave something.
Something known as Friendship.

Smiles are captured forever.
The radiance and especially the togetherness that still binds us till today.
Binding us like brothers and sisters in christ forever, with each brilliant snap of photo framed with love.
Until now, I wonder why the moods always at its best, always at a state that we thought sadness is not a word that describe our life.
I sort of realised that, not even a photo that we took is covered with feeling of sadness, vengeance, anguish and pain.

Each and every picture that we took.
Tells a thousand different words.
And every picture that I look.
The word Nostalgic came straight into this small brain.
The nostalgia is not just about friendship
but the new friendship that we forged and
the family in Cell that we made.

As time goes by, the life go about changing its route.
Leaving us nothing but the memories.
But as time passes later and further away…
We forgot about those moments that we left behind in smooth paperbacks,
Frozen in time.

The monkeys whom are being much Love by others.

The Cell with females are gentle and kind
The Cell whose laughter can crack anybody to burst into laughter.
The Cell that has a signature.
The Cell filled with zest, enthusiasm and NONSENSE!!!
The Cell that will never give up even though we are at the edge of a corner.
That is what we are..

previously was asking for u guys to pray for me to be able to handle the overwhelming school stress. yeah, i'm those who panic very very easily and will get very scared whenever i cant complete my school work which is also now significantly increasing.

but God really helped me, whenever i woke up late for school or the bus is simply too crowded to get in, i will be kinda scared cos i dont wanna be late, but God never fails to help me get to school on time,

and the stress tt i had been facing had actually seem tt it will never end, but nowadays, i am really coping quite well, despite all those test tt are coming up which usually makes me even more stress. but due to God's amazing grace,
He never fails to bring peace to my heart, just as He had promised.i wanna encourage all of us to continue with our masterlife,

and even our daily quiet time where u spend time with God," trust in the Lord with all ur heart, and lean not on ur own understanding, in ALL ur ways aknowledge Him and He will make ur path straight"
